Biodegradable: Hot or Not?

Biodegradable in advertising . . .

Since when did we start selling something by how well it turns back into dust?

Copy boasts that it’s fairtrade or made from recycled plastics. I get it. We’re selling the positive feeling of doing good.

But biodegradable shoes? We’ve taken it one step too far with this product in our eagerness to kick it with Earth Day.

“Want to reduce your carbon footprint? Try on these biodegradable shoes.”

What about biodegradable ads?

    Good point for discussion.

I think the idea is growing because piles of garbage in our landfills and oceans are growing. Having something biodegrade into something that won’t harm the environment once it has completed its useful life is how we can reduce the trash we are making.

Producers of products need to take responsibility for their products and packaging, and take responsibility for all the life cycle stages of the product and package. f they do, things are going to improve in a hurry. Remember when things came in a simple box? Now most things come in a plastic/cardboard package that is almost impossible to open and when you do you have ton of package trash.

I get it, my green friend. I just wonder if we can come up with another word for it in advertising. It’s responsibility. It’s common sense. It’s ___.
